Scleral Buckle
The scleral buckle procedure is used in the treatment of retinal detachment. The procedure uses a small, thin band of silicone which is carefully wrapped around the white part of the eye, known as the sclera. The band positions the sclera towards the middle of the eye, which helps to keep the detached retina in place against the back of the eye.
A scleral buckle can be performed with local or general anesthesia, and is typically considered to be an outpatient procedure.
